About Hughs lost

I first travelled overseas at the age of 10 in 2000. since then I have travelled, lived in, worked in and volunteered in 60 countries across 5 continents. In 2014 I spent a year in South America, attached to this website are some of my stories from that period. Following my recent employment with Topdeck Travel in the UK, tour managing through Europe, I made the decision to learn more about the tourism industry.
My studies have taken me home to Melbourne, to engage with the Masters of Sustainable Tourism Management at Monash University, ranked in the top 1% of universities globally. I am currently working in the Melbourne tourism industry as a local tour guide, as well as working as a tourism business analyst on the Great Ocean Road.
Tourism has great potential to be beneficial for communities. However this must be led by research, and sustainable management and planning which involves communities as well as external stakeholders.
At the end of the day there is no tourism without impact, and it is vital to ensure that this impact is a positive one.
Enjoy the stories on this site and feel free to ask me anything regarding the tourism industry, potential holiday destinations or local advice regarding a trip to Melbourne.
Cheers,
Hugh
